When someone becomes a lead, their interest in you is at its highest. It fades quickly. What you send in the first two weeks has more effect on whether they buy than almost anything you send later. A short, planned welcome email series makes sure that window is not wasted.
Day 0: Confirm and Deliver
Send the first email immediately. Thank them, confirm what they signed up for, and deliver it — the download, the discount code, or confirmation that their brochure is on its way. Keep it short. Its job is to prove you are real, reliable and worth opening next time.
Day 2: Introduce Yourself
Tell them who you are and why people choose you. One or two strong reasons, a customer quote, and a clear link to your most popular products or services. Avoid the temptation to say everything at once.
Day 5: Be Useful
Send something helpful that is not a sales pitch: a buying guide, a how-to, answers to the questions customers ask most. This builds trust and gives people a reason to keep opening your emails even before they are ready to buy.
Day 8: Show Proof
Reviews, case studies or examples of what others have achieved with you. Social proof answers the quiet question every lead has — “will this work for someone like me?”
Day 11: Make an Offer
By now the lead knows you. This is the moment for a clear, time-limited reason to act: an introductory offer, free delivery, or a booking incentive. Make the call to action obvious and the next step easy.
Day 14: Ask a Question
For those who have not acted, a short, plain email asking what they are looking for, or whether they have any questions, often gets replies when polished marketing does not. Their answers also tell you how to segment them for future emails.
Rules That Make It Work
- Stop when they buy. Move converted leads out of the welcome series and into customer communications.
- Use what you know. If the lead told you their interests when they signed up, reflect them in the content.
- Respect consent. Send only what they agreed to, and make unsubscribing easy.
- Measure each step. Track opens, clicks and conversions per email so you can improve the weakest link.
